JOIN THE FIGHT FOR MORE ENERGY INDEPENDENCE

Our strength comes from diverse stakeholder input and expertise. Below are resources with extensive information about Virginia's renewable energy economy, and how YOU can get involved.

NATIONAL SOLAR JOBS CENSUS 2018

The 2018 National Solar Jobs Census, compiled by The Solar Foundation, shows the increasing importance of distributed solar jobs within the industry: distributed solar jobs make up 86% of total industry employment.

The census also shows a rising difficulty to fill these positions with qualified employees. As demand for solar continues to grow, we must ensure our workforce development grows at that same rate.

2018 VIRGINIA SOLAR INDUSTRY DATA

Solar Energy Industry Association provides a snapshot of the solar industry for each state, including data like total megawatts installed, the total solar investment in the state and more. To see how Virginia ranks compared to other U.S. states, look no further than SEIA's Virginia Solar Fact Sheet.

VIRGINIA'S SOLAR INCENTIVE PROGRAMS AND POLICIES

DSIRE is the most comprehensive source of information on incentives and policies that support renewables and energy efficiency in the United States. Established in 1995, DSIRE is operated by the N.C. Clean Energy Technology Center at N.C. State University and is funded by the U.S. Department of Energy.

OTHER SOLAR COST-BENEFIT STUDIES

Many states have commissioned specific cost-benefit studies on the value of solar and renewable energy. This page includes links to various studies across the country, including Brookings Institute's Rooftop solar: Net Metering is a Net Benefit report.

INSTITUTE FOR LOCAL SELF-RELIANCE'S 2019 COMMUNITY POWER SCORECARD

Unlike scorecards that evaluate state energy policies on a single statewide outcome or measure (e.g., 50 percent renewable by 2030), ILSR's Community Power score focuses instead on the way state policy enables communities to choose their path toward these goals.
